Message from President Meagan Coughlin, APR

Hello and Happy New Year!

On the first Monday of the month, I will share a president's message that will highlight important PRSA Houston happenings. This message will be sent directly to your inbox, posted on our website blog, and shared on social. Let's get started.

What to Expect in 2021
PRSA Houston's theme for 2021 is "Navigating New Horizons: Leading Communications through Challenges and Change." We believe this theme rings true for our profession, for our association, and personally for many of us. In 2020, we pivoted from in-person events to virtual happenings and learned how important it was to our members to stay connected, continue to network even if virtually, and grow professionally with PRSA Houston. As uncertainty still looms over us, we will maintain virtual programming during the first quarter and we plan to get back to in-person events as soon as it’s deemed safe – hopefully sooner rather than later. Until then, we will continue to bring you valuable virtual programming with featured monthly webinars, member-only workshops, media mixers, and more. We are looking to bring our popular event - PR Day - back in a virtual setting and looking at options to host our 36th Annual Excalibur Awards in-person in the fall.

January Programming
During the first quarter, we will feature a monthly webinar the second Thursday of the month from noon to 1 p.m. We also plan to host member-only workshops that are interactive and offer applicable, useful information and tools to help you develop your professional skills. We'll look to host a virtual media mixer, a student-mentor event, and a networking coffee chat with me and members of the PRSA Houston board. Our first featured webinar of the year will take place on Jan. 14 from noon to 1 p.m. and will feature Houston First's Chief Marketing Officer Holly Clapham-Rosenow and a special guest appearance from PRSA National Chair Michelle Olson, APR. REGISTER NOW.

We Need You
Did you know that PRSA Houston has nearly 20 committees that support the mission and the vitality of our association? It takes a collaborative community of public relations professionals to keep PRSA Houston as one of the largest and robust chapters in the country. We need committee volunteers to help us with our sponsorships, social media, communications and newsletter, PR Day, Excalibur Awards, membership, and programming. Not only will this give you a boost in your career, it's an excellent way to stay connected while we are still in a virtual environment. VOLUNTEER HERE.

Our Job Bank
PRSA Houston's job bank is one of my most favorite resources and I've got to say, it's been pretty awesome to watch job postings increase as the workforce tends to improve. We maintain an active job bank on our website, post new jobs on our social media, and send a weekly job bank newsletter on Thursdays. Visit our job bank to view postings or to post a job opening.

Stand Out, Be Seen
Becoming a PRSA Houston sponsor is an excellent way to reach a professional audience of more than 10K communication professionals. The cool thing about our sponsorship package is that there is something for everyone and our members enjoy getting to know our sponsors throughout the year. Check out our sponsorship package here. Contact PRSA Houston President-Elect Felicia Perez at [email protected] for more information.

Staying Connected & Informed
PRSA Houston uses several main communication platforms to share information with you - our newsletter, our social platforms, and our website. Please be sure to check our website often, open our newsletters (we know that national sends a lot, too), and actively follow and engage on our social platforms. Also, don't forget to connect with me on LinkedIn. If you want to schedule a virtual meet and greet with me and learn more about PRSA Houston or just connect, send me an email and we can set something up.
