Message from President Meagan Coughlin, APR

Hello and Welcome to February
On the first Monday of the month, I will share a president's message that will highlight important PRSA Houston happenings. This message will be sent directly to your inbox, posted on our website blog, in a video, and shared on social. Let's see what's happening in February.

Celebrate Black History Month with PRSA Houston
Celebrate Black History Month with PRSA Houston by submitting a video to our diversity committee sharing what Black History Month means to you. We will share your video on our social media platforms during the month of February. If you are interested in submitting a video, please send me an email to [email protected] and I will connect you with our diversity committee. We will be accepting videos throughout the month of February.

February Events: Podcasting for Public Relations
PRSA Houston's featured monthly webinar is on Feb. 11 from noon to 1 p.m. Networking begins at 11:45 a.m. During the webinar, learn how to humanize your business marketing with podcasting presented by special guest speaker Ozeal Debastos - community leader, podcast consultant, and founder of Ozeal Media. During this event, you will hear how to use voice marketing as a community building strategy, three ways to drive revenue with podcasting, and how to incorporate podcasting as part of your strategic communications plan.

Our members-only monthly workshop is on Feb. 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. During the workshop, learn how to use audio to achieve your communications goals with special guest Isha Cogborn, founder of the Epiphany InstituteDuring this interactive workshop, we will discuss why audio creates deeper connections than written communication; explore audio platforms like Clubhouse and Hello Audio with use cases; and, conduct a hands-on brainstorm of how audio could help you achieve your goals. You’ll walk away from this session clear-eyed about the strategic value of audio, so you don’t miss the boat on game-changing opportunities or waste your time with shiny-object syndrome.

In-Person Opportunities
After a month into 2021 and serving as your PRSA Houston president, I am noticing two things -- there are members who want to continue virtual engagement for now and there are members who are interested in exploring ways to meet in-person safely in an outdoor environment. For those comfortable with possibly meeting in-person we are considering two opportunities:

  1. Neighborhood Networks - The idea is that PRSA Houston members can connect with other PRSA Houston members living in their areas for an in-person coffee, lunch, or happy hour in an outdoor environment that feels safe to them. Email me to let me know if you are interested in learning more or if you think this is a good idea or a bad idea.

  2. Local Park Tour - There are a lot of cool spaces in Houston that we could tour as a group. Let me know if work at an outdoor space, park, or a place to our and you'd like to host us for an outdoor tour.

Do You Want to Engage More with Other Members? Try This...
PRSA Houston wants to coordinate a PR community service project where members can engage with each other in a different way to stay connected and interact with other PR colleagues. If you are interested in helping to coordinate this opportunity, please connect with me.

What's Up with the Excalibur Awards?
Pre-pandemic, PRSA Houston typically hosted it's Excalibur Awards event in-person in June opening the call for entries in January. With so many unknowns right now, our board of directors and Excalibur Awards committee is working through the best way to successfully make this event and awards program the best it can be in 2021. Information about the call for entries will be shared soon. We do know that we will be hosting our Excalibur Awards event sometime this fall. More details comining soon.

HELLO? CAN ANYBODY HEAR ME?
Becoming a PRSA Houston sponsor is an excellent way to reach a professional audience of more than 10K communication professionals. The cool thing about our sponsorship package is that there is something for everyone and our members enjoy getting to know our sponsors throughout the year. Check out our sponsorship package here.
